Attorney Haydee Oropesa was born in New Jersey where her Cuban parents initially settled after leaving Cuba during the sixties. Later, her family relocated to Miami-Dade County, Florida where Haydee was raised. Haydee Oropesa received a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University in 1996. In 1997 she relocated to the Tampa Bay area from Miami and attended Stetson University College of Law where she earned a Dual Degree, J.D./M.B.A. While attending law school, Haydee was a member of Stetson's Moot Court Board. Her team competed in the 1998 Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition and the team was awarded third place for the written memorial. She also competed in Stetson's 1998 Intramural Moot Court Competition where she won second place.
Upon graduating she began her legal career with the Hillsborough County Public Defender's Tampa office in 2000. In April of 2001 she began working with the Pinellas County Public Defender's office. During the six and a half years practicing as an Assistant Public Defender Haydee was able to gain a wealth of experience handling misdemeanor and serious felony cases. She was initially assigned to the Domestic Violence division where she successfully tried cases before juries. She was able to win a reversal on appeal on her first DUI case. Later, Haydee was assigned to the felony division were she handled serious felonies including drug trafficking charges, sexual batteries, robberies, burglaries, firearm cases, aggravated assault/batteries, and child abuse. Haydee went into private practice in 2006 as an associate with a firm largely dedicated to DUI defense and was able to expand her knowledge base in this specialized area. She gained immense experience in representing clients at Administrative Hearings and with their DUI cases. Haydee founded Oropesa Law Offices in 2007 and has been practicing exclusively in the area of criminal defense for ten years. In 2008 she was able to obtain an acquittal on a second degree murder case in Pinellas County Florida.
Haydee Oropesa also speaks Spanish fluently.
