What Is the Florida BDI Course?
The 4-Hour Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course — also known as Florida Traffic School — is a state-mandated driver education program approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). It is specifically designed for Florida drivers who have received a non-criminal moving violation and want to avoid points on their driving record or reduce their traffic ticket fees.

Florida Statute Reference — §318.14(9)
Under Florida Statute §318.14(9), a driver charged with a non-criminal traffic infraction may elect to attend a DHSMV-approved Basic Driver Improvement course in lieu of payment. Upon successful completion, the court withholds adjudication of the violation and no points are assessed to the driver's record.
